SUMMARY:Earth Day Live: Environmental Literacy & Civics: Education to Change the World
DESCRIPTION:The world and its people are facing full-scale climate emergencies from wildfires\, hurricanes and drought to collapsing biodiversity\, crop failures\, mass migration and starvation. Students stand to inherit a world that is rife with uncertainty\, but also full of potential to be transformed into a more just and sustainable home. \nIn order to prepare our children for this rapidly changing world and for the jobs of the future\, youth everywhere need to be educated about the complex and interdependent issues of climate and environmental science and build the civic skills to make lasting changes in their communities and globally: this education starts in schools. \nEARTHDAY‍.ORG invites you to join another installment of our Earth Day Live series: \n Environmental Literacy and Civics: Education to Change the World on Tuesday\, January 26th at noon EST. \nJoin us for the live event. \nRSVP \nThe panel will be 60 minutes and hosted over Zoom. By registering and joining the webinar\, you’ll be able to ask questions during the Q&A. If you can’t connect over Zoom\, we’ll also be streaming the event over Facebook. \nOur panelists include: \n\nMirian Vilela — Executive Director of the Earth Charter based in Costa Rica\nDr. Lawrence M. Paska — Executive Director of National Council for the Social Studies\nElizabeth Wanjiru Wathuti — Kenyan environment and climate activist\, founder of the Green Generation Initiative\nMichelle Ciulla Lipkin — Executive Director of the National Association for Media Literacy Education\nDr. Pramod Kumar Sharma — Senior Director of Education with Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)\nModerator: Dr. Christina Kwauk — Associate Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of Climate Change Education\n\nNext week\, we examine the interdisciplinary nature of environmental and climate change education and how we use civic education to inspire hope and action for students across the world.

SUMMARY:Stop the Money Pipeline: #BuildBackFossilFree Digital Rally
DESCRIPTION:Indigenous organizers and allies won a decade-long campaign against the Keystone XL Pipeline. \nOn his first day in office\, President Biden signed an executive order killing the pipeline. Now we need to take this momentum and push him to go further. \nJoin us on Tuesday\, January 26th at 8pm ET / 5pm PT for the #BuildBackFossilFree Digital Rally — with the fight to #StopLine3 heating up\, let’s make sure Keystone XL isn’t the only pipeline President Biden cancels in his first 100 days. \nDuring the digital rally we’ll hear from frontline leaders protecting their communities from fossil fuel extraction and infrastructure\, and take action together to pressure the new administration. \nArt by Rebo and Kill Joy as part of the Just Seeds Collective. \nPresident Biden has committed to “build back better” as the coronavirus continues to run rampant. \nWith climate disasters and fossil fuel pollution already disrupting millions of lives\, the only way we really build back better is if we build back fossil free. \nThat’s why we’re joining dozens of other groups\, representing millions of people\, to make these demands of President Biden: \n\nProtect and invest in the Black\, Indigenous\, Brown\, and working-class communities that have borne the brunt of fossil fuel pollution and climate disasters.\nReject new fossil fuel projects\, including the Line 3 pipeline; eliminate giveaways to oil\, gas\, and coal corporations\, and end the era of fossil fuel production.\nLaunch a national climate mobilization to Build Back Fossil Free\, deliver jobs\, justice\, and opportunity for all.\n\nOur communities gave Joe Biden the mandate to be bold. The good news is that he has the tools to reject new fossil fuel projects\, eliminate giveaways to oil gas\, and coal corporations\, and end the era of fossil fuel production. Day one was a good start — let’s make sure tomorrow is better. \nJoin us this coming Tuesday\, January 26th at 8pm ET / 5pm PT for the #BuildBackFossilFree Digital Rally.
