SUMMARY:Montgomery County Releases Draft Vision Zero 2030 Action Plan & Announces Listening Sessions to Gather Community Input
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich has released the Draft Vision Zero 2030 Action Plan and Fiscal Years 2022-23 Work Plan for public review and input. The Vision Zero 2030 Action Plan builds on the County’s previous Vision Zero and Pedestrian Safety plans and lays out the work ahead to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by 2030. \nFeedback on the plan starts today and will run through early June. Between April 28 and May 26\, five virtual listening sessions will be held to gather input on the plan. \n“We need to be innovative in using more low-cost interventions to improve more roads and intersections every year. This plan does that by expanding Vision Zero into more of the County’s maintenance programs. We need to hear from County residents to make the Vision Zero Plan stronger and meet the needs of everyone regardless of how they get around the County.” – County Executive Marc Elrich \nVision Zero Coordinator Wade Holland will lead the series of virtual listening sessions. Each session is focused on one of the regional service areas of the County. Residents do not need to live in the service area to attend. Each listening session will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held via Zoom (registration is required): \nMay 26 – East County \nA copy of the plan\, access to the feedback survey\, and details on how to register for each listening session are available at:  montgomerycountymd.gov/visionzero/2030plan.html \n

SUMMARY:Labor Network for Sustainability: Transit Equity Day
DESCRIPTION:Labor Network for Sustainability: Transit Equity Day\nLast year\, people took action in dozens of cities across the U.S. demanding that our local\, state and federal governments make public transit accessible and affordable to all\, create good jobs by expanding our public transit systems\, and protect our health and climate by using renewable energy to power our buses and trains. \nJoin us again on February 4\, 2019 for the Second Transit Equity Day\nWe choose February 4 as Transit Equity Day to honor Rosa Parks on her birthday. Her act of resistance by refusing to give up her seat on the bus in 1955 was a catalyst for the civil rights movement. It affirmed that everyone has the right to equal access to public transit. \n  \nFor more information about what you can do\, visit https://www.labor4sustainability.org/articles/transit-equity-day-is-coming-save-the-date-take-action/

SUMMARY:Montgomery Green Democrats June Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery Green Democrats June Meeting\nBy 2040\, Montgomery will have 70% more congestion\, 40% more jobs and 20% more residents. In 2013\, Montgomery County approved a plan for an 81-mile bus rapid transit (BRT) network.   \nRecent attempts to fund the plan have met resistance. Now\, BRT funding from the state is set to run out\, and BRT’s future in Montgomery could be in doubt.  \nPete Tomao of the Coalition for Smarter Growth will update the status of the BRT plan and outline next steps for keeping the project moving. More info at http://www.smartergrowth.net/maryland/montgomery-county/ \nMonthly Meetings of the Montgomery County Green Democrats are open to the public. The speaker will be followed by conduct of club business. \n  \nFor more information
