SUMMARY:Leaders in Energy – Regeneration Series: Electrify Everything
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Regeneration Series: Electrify Everything”  \nWebinar: Wednesday\, December 11\, from 1:00 to 2:15 pm ET \nThis virtual event is on electrification and its key role in decarbonizing our energy system. It’s the second webinar in LE’s Regeneration series inspired by Paul Hawken’s book\, “Regeneration: Ending the climate crisis in one generation” and his organization “Regeneration.” Both provide an encyclopedic list of solutions to address the climate crisis and the regeneration of planetary ecosystems.  \nScientists are expecting Earth’s global average temperature in 2024 to be the hottest on record\, surpassing 2023 as the titleholder\, with fossil fuels contributing to more than three-quarters of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We need to change how we use energy in our daily lives\, communities\, and collective society\, and we can do it. \nAccording to physicist Saul Griffith\, if we electrify the whole world economy\, using “clean” electricity and efficient technologies\, we would need less than half of the primary energy we currently use. It’s not a straight line\, but there are paths forward. For example: \n\nThe use of clean\, efficient electric alternatives in our homes and businesses\, e.g.\, appliances\, vehicles\, etc.\, could reduce nearly half our carbon emissions and buy time to handle sectors that are more difficult to decarbonize\, including industry\, agriculture\, freight transport\, and long-haul aviation.\nElectrifying everything will reduce overall energy use\, but still requires doubling the amount of electricity by 2050 to meet increased expected demand. \nWe need to account for data centers for artificial intelligence\, cryptocurrency computing\, and electric vehicles which are increasing demand.\nChanges to the consumer culture which presently eats up significant energy — via food/waste\, apparel\, travel choices\, and the individual ownership of products with planned obsolescence.\n\nRegister here: https://leadersinenergy.org/event/regeneration-series-electrify-everything-december-112024/

SUMMARY:The Fight to End Fossil Fuels Continues!
DESCRIPTION:We are sending our love and solidarity to you and your loved ones today. Trump’s victory will make our work so much harder in the years ahead and right now\, it’s important that we take the time to mourn\, grieve and be with loved ones. \nBut there’s still so much that we can do. As Rebecca Solnit writes\, “The fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving.” \nThis was our task yesterday\, and it is our task in the years ahead: to save as much that is good and beautiful in this world as we possibly can. \nWith that said\, there is no doubt the result of the 2024 elections will have astounding impacts on the future of our communities\, our campaigns\, and our planet. \nWe invite you to join Stop the Money Pipeline on Wednesday\, November 20th at 7pm ET / 4pm PT for a conversation in response to the 2024 elections\, including how we are preparing to organize to continue holding the financiers of fossil fuels accountable. \nHere are the details: \n\nWhat: The Fight to End Fossil Fuels Continues! What’s next following the 2024 Elections?\nWhen: Wednesday\, November 20th at 7pm ET / 4pm PT\nWhere: On Zoom! RSVP here to get the Zoom link.\n\n \nWe will be joined by some of our movement’s most inspiring and badass leaders: \n\nDr. Crystal Cavalier-Keck\, 7 Directions of Service (North Carolina)\nRoishetta Ozane\, The Vessel Project (Louisiana)\nTara Houska (Minnesota)\n\nI am honored to be moderating this conversation and hope you all can join us for what will be a powerful and inspiring event. \nOur goal is to continue growing our campaigns to keep fighting the financiers of climate destruction. On the call\, we will share tactics and ideas for sustained engagement in the Mountain Valley Pipeline fight\, the Gulf South Stop LNG campaign\, and the Costco\, Citi\, and Vanguard campaigns. \nRSVP now for this important conversation happening on Zoom the evening of November 20th at 7pm ET / 4pm PT. \nWe will keep organizing and taking care of each other\, how we have been\, and how we will continue to do every day. We hope you’ll join us.

SUMMARY:MCDOT Annual Bike Donation Event
DESCRIPTION:Unused Bikes Will Go to Good Use If Donated to Department of Transportation’s Annual Bike Donation Event\, Friday\, Oct. 11\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe end of summer is often the time homeowners do major cleanups of garages and basements. Often\, they find bicycles that need a new home. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is asking for residents to donate bikes to make a difference in their local community. \nMCDOT’s annual bike collection event will be held from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday\, Oct. 11\, during Community Service Month. The event will collect child and adult bikes and bike parts outside of the County Council Office Building Garage\, which is located at the intersection of East Jefferson and Monroe streets in Rockville. Used bike helmets will not be collected. \nDonated bikes will be distributed to residents in need through the MCDOT’s Bike Match MoCo program after being cleaned up by volunteers from the nonprofit Rockville Bike Hub. Some of the children’s bikes will also be distributed through Rockville’s Terrific Kids program and older bikes are donated to Bikes for The World. \nSix previous bike donation events have resulted in 1\,374 bicycles collected. Last year\, 290 bikes were collected—a considerable increase from the 120 collected in the event’s first year in 2017. \nResidents can also make monetary donations (by check) to the Rockville Bike Hub during the bicycle collection event. The funds will be used to purchase new bike helmets and parts to repair the bikes. \nFor more information about the event\, send an email to paul.gatons@montgomerycountymd.gov.\n\nMore information: https://montgomerycomd.blogspot.com/2024/08/unused-bikes-will-go-to-good-use-if.html

SUMMARY:350MoCo 10 Year Anniversary Party
DESCRIPTION:Dear 350MoCo-ers and Friends\, \n\nJoin us for a special evening at Busboys & Poets on Saturday\, September 21 at 6:00 PM. The excitement is building for our 10th anniversary party and we need you with us to celebrate.\n\n\n\nRSVP Today!\n\n\nWe have a ten year history of pioneering climate action and results in the County; including the County’s first-ever divestment resolution and our community methane leaks mapping project.\n\nIn our next ten years we are committed to expanding and deepening our climate justice work in the County. We’ll continue to stand by the Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition for justice in land use planning; expand our gas leak campaign in underserved neighborhoods and keep fighting for County and state pension policies that defend our retirees against climate financial risks. \nIn general\, we’ll work to bring a bigger share of climate program benefits to the low-income households in the County\, while also building space for these groups at the decision making table. We see a bright\, diverse and healthy future ahead for Montgomery County! \n\n\nSpeakers include Evan Glass\, Montgomery County Council; Mike Tidwell\, long-time leader of CCAN; Maxwell Downing of Climate Defiance and Robert Stubblefield of the BACC.\nMusical performance by renowned labor bard\, Joe Uehlein.\nOur silent auction has unique items like a guided bike tour; and a house concert by Mr. Uehlein!\n\nFor more information: https://www.350moco.org/
