SUMMARY:ANS October 2022 Conservation Café: America the Beautiful for All
DESCRIPTION:This Hispanic Heritage Month\, ANS is joining with the America the Beautiful For All campaign to highlight the importance of both conservation and access to public lands. \nJoin me on Wednesday\, October 19\, 7-8:30 pm to hear from Mariana Del Valle Prieto Cervantes\, Director of Strategic Initiatives at GreenLatinos. \nWe’ll learn about this powerful new coalition that reflects the diversity of America and centers the voices of people of color working to conserve 30% of our public lands\, waters\, and ocean by 2030. The political power necessary to accomplish the twin goals of conservation and environmental justice rests entirely on our ability to shift power\, grow\, and cultivate a united environmental community that truly represents America. We are stronger and more effective when we work together. \n \nThe America the Beautiful for All Coalition’s Twin Goals:  \n\nConserve at least 30% of land\, water\, and ocean by 2030 to avoid massive species loss\, secure equitable access to nature’s benefits\, and prevent and repair the impacts of the climate crisis for all communities. \nImplement a Justice40 metric for the America the Beautiful Initiative to ensure at least 40% of investments are made in communities of color and frontline communities that have historically seen little to no investment in conservation and equitable access to nature. \n\nVIRTUAL. Tickets $10-$15. \nEmail eliza.cava@anshome.org for complimentary tickets if needed. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

SUMMARY:MD Pensions & Climate Risk: The Road to Net Zero
DESCRIPTION:Join our panel of distinguished speakers to discuss the state of play for pension fund decarbonization in Maryland\, and how Maryland’s pension system can align itself with the state’s 2045 net zero emissions goal.  \nRecognizing that climate risk is investment risk\, Maryland enacted legislation (SB 566 and HB 0740) in 2022 that requires the State Retirement and Pension System (SRPS) to assess climate risk across certain parts of its investment portfolio\, and identify investment opportunities in renewable energy technologies. \nThis bill is a positive move toward decarbonizing the SRPS and reducing climate risk for retirees\, but more work is needed to fully decarbonize its portfolio. Join us as we talk about next steps! \nSpeakers will include former Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Sarah Bloom Raskin\, pension fund decarbonization expert Tom Sanzillo\, Maryland Senator Sarah Elfreth\, and Maryland Delegate Brooke Lierman.  \nWHEN: \nThursday\, October 6\, 9:30AM ET \nWHERE: \nZoom – RSVP to receive the Zoom link \nRSVP today!
