SUMMARY:ANS October 2022 Conservation Café: America the Beautiful for All
DESCRIPTION:This Hispanic Heritage Month\, ANS is joining with the America the Beautiful For All campaign to highlight the importance of both conservation and access to public lands. \nJoin me on Wednesday\, October 19\, 7-8:30 pm to hear from Mariana Del Valle Prieto Cervantes\, Director of Strategic Initiatives at GreenLatinos. \nWe’ll learn about this powerful new coalition that reflects the diversity of America and centers the voices of people of color working to conserve 30% of our public lands\, waters\, and ocean by 2030. The political power necessary to accomplish the twin goals of conservation and environmental justice rests entirely on our ability to shift power\, grow\, and cultivate a united environmental community that truly represents America. We are stronger and more effective when we work together. \n \nThe America the Beautiful for All Coalition’s Twin Goals:  \n\nConserve at least 30% of land\, water\, and ocean by 2030 to avoid massive species loss\, secure equitable access to nature’s benefits\, and prevent and repair the impacts of the climate crisis for all communities. \nImplement a Justice40 metric for the America the Beautiful Initiative to ensure at least 40% of investments are made in communities of color and frontline communities that have historically seen little to no investment in conservation and equitable access to nature. \n\nVIRTUAL. Tickets $10-$15. \nEmail eliza.cava@anshome.org for complimentary tickets if needed. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

SUMMARY:Zero Waste: Building a Better Community (webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Zero Waste: Building a Better Community \nTuesday\, October 11\, 2022  •  7 – 8:30 pm\nThis is the first event of a three-part series called “Zero Waste: Building a Better Community.” The series will take a deep dive into the environmental benefits and economic opportunities of a zero waste\, circular economy. Learn about actions that you or your business can take to support a zero-waste economy in your local community. The event is free to attend. \nThe October 11th webinar (7:00 – 8:30 pm EDT) is “Building a Circular Economy: Breaking the Produce-Consume-Dispose Paradigm.” Transforming to a zero waste community hinges on rethinking how and where we produce\, use\, and reuse materials and goods. This program will explore how products and business practices can be redesigned to reduce impact on the environment\, promote durability and reuse\, and ultimately be recycled into new products for a more resilient community.  \nYou can also plan ahead for the next two “Zero Waste: Building a Better Community” events in the coming months: \n\n “Beyond Recycling: Reduce\, Reuse\, Repair” – November 29\n “Reimagining Our Waste Management Systems” – January 17\n\nFor more information and to register:  https://facs.salsalabs.org/build-circlular/index.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=cb95b34b-7a03-441a-acbf-fb48bda9b3e6 \n

SUMMARY:MD Pensions & Climate Risk: The Road to Net Zero
DESCRIPTION:Join our panel of distinguished speakers to discuss the state of play for pension fund decarbonization in Maryland\, and how Maryland’s pension system can align itself with the state’s 2045 net zero emissions goal.  \nRecognizing that climate risk is investment risk\, Maryland enacted legislation (SB 566 and HB 0740) in 2022 that requires the State Retirement and Pension System (SRPS) to assess climate risk across certain parts of its investment portfolio\, and identify investment opportunities in renewable energy technologies. \nThis bill is a positive move toward decarbonizing the SRPS and reducing climate risk for retirees\, but more work is needed to fully decarbonize its portfolio. Join us as we talk about next steps! \nSpeakers will include former Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Sarah Bloom Raskin\, pension fund decarbonization expert Tom Sanzillo\, Maryland Senator Sarah Elfreth\, and Maryland Delegate Brooke Lierman.  \nWHEN: \nThursday\, October 6\, 9:30AM ET \nWHERE: \nZoom – RSVP to receive the Zoom link \nRSVP today!

SUMMARY:Leaders in Energy : 9th Annual Green Jobs Forum – Find Your Path into a Green Job
DESCRIPTION:On September 22nd from 3:30-7:00 PM EDT\, Leaders in Energy is holding its 9th Annual Green Jobs Forum virtually – “Find Your Path to a Green Job.” \nThe event will include three key topics. The first is Green Job Opportunities. We will hear about hiring underway at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as it adds a large number of staff with wide-ranging skills to its Clean Energy Corps. Opportunities can also be found as start-ups and businesses grow in the green sector (e.g.\, the circular economy\, carbon reduction\, alternative transportation and more). This can help people create their own jobs and jobs for others. We’ll hear from representatives with the US DOE\, and Bethesda Green’s Innovation Lab whose programs support entrepreneurs\, along with other speakers.   \nThe second topic will be centered around Educational Pathways to a Green Job.  It will focus on traditional educational pathways\, as well as non-traditional ways such as certificates\, apprenticeships and transferable skills. Alternative educational options are becoming more prevalent along with a greater diversity of degree programs.  Institutions are creating short-form certificate programs to equip current and aspiring members of the workforce with critical skills and knowledge to bring sustainability practices to an organization. We’ll hear about opportunities like these from a number of groups\, including the International Society of Sustainability Professionals.  \nThe third topic will focus on Being Inspired by and Learning from Others who have Landed or Created Green Jobs. We will hear from a diverse group of green professionals who landed or created their own jobs in the public and private sectors. They will share about their experiences in order to help others along this path. If your aspiration is to move into the green jobs world\, this panel will be both encouraging and informative.   \nThe Forum will conclude with Creating Networking Connections – a half-hour session for attendees to meet one another and to share about the event. \nRegister below and find your pathway to a green job! \nThis year\, we’ve created three different payment tiers\, to make admission work for your budget.\nChoose the payment that’s right for you! \n\nTO REGISTER: https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07ejcoyoofac464820&oseq=&c=&ch=
