SUMMARY:Brews & Bulbs lightbulb exchange: Silver Branch Brewing\, Silver Spring
DESCRIPTION:Brews & Bulbs lightbulb exchange: Silver Branch Brewing\, Silver Spring \n\nTuesday\, February 11\, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm –\nSilver Branch Brewing\, 8401 Colesville Rd #150\, Silver Spring\n\n \nGuess what’s brewing? For the entire month of FeBREWary\, we will be visiting local breweries to bring you another opportunity to swap out old\, inefficient bulbs. Why? Because we want you to be able to spend more money at local breweries this month and all year round and one way to do that is by lowering your utility bills. \nOne of the easiest things you can do is switch to LED bulbs. On average\, LEDs consume 80% less energy when compared to incandescent light bulbs and that means more money in your pocket – and more money for beer! When people visit one of these breweries during the month of FeBREWary\, we will swap up to 4 bulbs at no cost! Bring us your old incandescent and CFL bulbs and we will give you LEDs. \n  \nWhat is FeBREWary?\nAccording to the Brewers Association of Maryland\, FeBREWary is the official month-long celebration of Maryland craft beer. Maryland is a bubbling craft beer destination. The state is home to farm breweries\, brewpubs\, and manufacturing breweries. Whether you are a Maryland resident or a tourist planning a craft beer getaway\, FeBREWary is the perfect time to visit and explore Maryland’s breweries. \nOther Upcoming Brews & Bulbs: \n\nThursday\, February 13\, 2020 from 5:00- 7:00 pm – Waredaca Brewing Company\, 4017 Damascus Rd\, Gaithersburg\nFriday\, February 14\, 2020 from 6:00 – 10:00 pm – Love Thy Beer Event\, Silver Spring Civic Center\, Silver Spring\nWednesday\, February 19\, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm – Denizen’s Brewing Company\, 1115 East-West Highway\, Silver Spring\nThursday\, February 20\, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm – Elder Pine Brewing and Blending\, 4200 Sundown Rd\, Gaithersburg\nThursday\, February 27\, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm – Astro Lab Brewing\, 8216 Georgia Ave\, Silver Spring\nFriday\, February 28\, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm – True Respite Brewing Company\, 7301 Calhoun Pl #600\, Derwood\n\nFor more information: https://mygreenmontgomery.org/2020/guess-whats-brewing-another-brews-and-bulbs-tour-in-febrewary/

DESCRIPTION:CABE Lobby Day in Annapolis\n \n\nTuesday\, February 11 •  10:00 am\nLocation: TBD\nContact Barbara Coufal at bcoufal10@aol.com\n \nMarylanders want to stop out-of-control multi-billion dollar private partnership highway deals. \nThe good news is our General Assembly is taking up smart bills to protect taxpayers\, communities\, and commuters from high-risk\, unsupervised boondoggles like Governor Hogan’s $11 billion Luxury Lane plan for I-270 and I-495. \nBut nothing will pass unless your state Senators and Delegates hear from you. \nMake a difference! SUMMARY:Social Justice Film Series @ Cedar Lane UUC: "Sanctuary" & "Health Undocumented"
DESCRIPTION:Social Justice Film Series @ Cedar Lane UUC: “Sanctuary” & “Health Undocumented” \nWhere do I go now? \nCEDAR LANE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH\, 9601 Cedar Lane\, Bethesda\, MD 20814  \nFriday\, January 17\, 2020 at 6:30 PM for Supper and Movie at 7 PM \nPlease bring a vegan or vegetarian dish or contribute a small offering to our meal \nSanctuary (10 min): This film highlights reflections from a Unitarian Universalist congregation in the US providing physical sanctuary for a woman and her child escaping deportation. Vicky Chavez fled domestic abuse and violence in her native Honduras to seek asylum in the US. Nearly 4 years later\, with her appeals exhausted and facing deportation\, she asked a community of faith in Salt Lake City for sanctuary. Sheltered inside the church\, she finds herself part of an ancient conflict. Kelsie Moore\, director; produced by KUER\, NPR-Utah in Salt Lake City \nHealth Undocumented (Salud Sin Papeles) (85 min): Sparked by backlash to a neo-Nazi rally and a stream of strict anti-immigrant laws passed in Arizona\, a group of activists organize to build Phoenix Allies for Community Health\, a unique free clinic serving undocumented immigrants. This film captures the inspirational birth of a local grassroots movement. Juan Freitez is a Venezuelan filmmaker and video journalist debuting his first feature-length documentary The Move (7 min) video animation on climate migration. SUMMARY:Thrive Montgomery 2050 Winter Speakers Series: The Future of Food
DESCRIPTION:Thrive Montgomery 2050 Winter Speakers Series\nThe Montgomery County Planning Department is hosting a three-part “Big Ideas Series” held in January\, February and March 2020 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Planning Department Headquarters (8787 Georgia Ave.\, Silver Spring\, MD). The series will feature speakers who will discuss ideas for planning for the future. The speakers’ series  is  part of Montgomery Planning’s  effort to update the county’s General Plan\, known as Thrive Montgomery 2050. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. The sessions include: \n\nThe Future of Food: January 14\, 2020\nMultimodal Transportation and a Healthy Economy: February 11\, 2020\nHousing for All: March 3\, 2020\n\nThe 2020 Big Ideas Series will feature three moderated discussions on ideas about the evolving nature of food production and farming\, how economic health relates to multimodal transportation and how to provide housing for all. The series is free and open to the public and planning professionals. Credits for certification maintenance (CM) for members of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) attending the series are available. \nAbout the Sessions\nThe Big Ideas Series will be held at the Planning Department headquarters (8787 Georgia Avenue\, Silver Spring\, MD) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sessions will also be available live and on-demand online. \n  \n\n \nThe Future of Food: January 14\, 2020\, 6 to 7:30 p.m.\nFarming and farmland continue to evolve since the establishment of the Agricultural Reserve nearly four decades ago. While traditional agricultural activities\, including grain farms and livestock operations have sustained\, Montgomery County has more recently experienced an increase in tabletop food production\, horticulture and agritourism industries. Furthermore\, access to healthy food and overall health has a direct correlation to wealth\, race and ethnicity in the United States. How can we provide healthy food access for all residents to foster an equitable\, prosperous future in Montgomery County? Learn from experienced farmers working in urban\, suburban and rural areas on how to plan for food production. \nRSVP

SUMMARY:The Climate Mobilization MoCo Chapter – 2020 Strategy Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Mobilization MoCo Chapter\n2020 Strategy Meeting \nSunday\, January 12 | 2 – 4 pm\nTemple Shalom\, 8401 Grubb Road\, Chevy Chase\, MD 20815\n \nOxford Dictionaries declared ‘climate emergency’ the word of 2019. We desperately need ‘bold and ambitious climate emergency action’ to be the phrase that defines 2020. Join us in January to develop TCM MoCo’s strategy to mobilize a critical mass of County residents to get involved in the work of the Climate Emergency.\n \nTCM MoCo in 2020 \nWe encourage all of you to join us in-person on the 12th of January to shape the TCM MoCo strategy for the coming year. \n 2019 was a busy year of action\, with a number of you participating in County Climate Action Plan workgroups; protesting with Extinction Rebellion in D.C. and Rockville; supporting the MoCo Students on Climate; and leading and participating in the Silver Spring Climate Town Hall in September. In recent weeks\, TCM has played a role in delaying indefinitely a vote by the Bureau of Public Works on Governor Hogan’s plan to widen I-270 and the Beltway.  In addition\, the Montgomery County Council has recently voted to prioritize establishing a local Community Choice Energy program\, if approved by the Maryland legislature and signed into law in early 2020. \nHowever\, these initiatives don’t translate into enough progress to restore a safe climate. The planet’s climate and ecological breakdown has only accelerated in the past two years since Montgomery County adopted the first climate emergency resolution in the nation. The development and implementation of the County’s Climate Action Plan will move forward\, but it is a deliberate and slow process. Many more residents and communities need to be mobilized to push the County further faster. \n At our TCM MoCo meeting on the 12th\, we will develop our goals and strategies for 2020 and beyond\, re-examine our organizational structure\, and discuss plans for effective communication with each other\, in person and digitally. The intent is to facilitate increased participation of current members\, explore ways to attract new members\, and expand engagement and partnership with other local organizations around the climate emergency. \nIf you would like to confirm your participation in the meeting\, ask a question\, or volunteer to help plan the meeting\, send us an email here.

Get ready to get inspired and make a difference on climate in Maryland.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nOn December 14\, 2019\, a coalition of advocacy groups large and small — faith leaders\, labor activists\, environmental groups\, and others — will be hosting an exciting one-day conference called Rebuild Maryland: The People’s Climate Summit. \nWe’ll have inspiring speakers and give you an opportunity to tell us what climate solutions inspire you the most. You’ll be inspired\, informed\, and ready to FIGHT for the kind of dramatic yet necessary climate solutions Greta Thunberg and other leaders worldwide are calling for. You don’t want to miss this day-long conference. \nThere will be a limited number of free tickets available to students and those in need. Or you can choose to cover the cost of someone else’s ticket in addition to your own when you check out. \nBy the year 2030\, we’ve got to cut total greenhouse gas emissions in Maryland and nationwide by close to 60 percent. It’s going to take all of us working together to make that happen. It’s going to take all of us to make sure that we’re not leaving anyone behind in that shift. It all starts on December 14\, 2019. \nCoffee\, snacks\, and lunch will be provided. \nCo-sponsored by: Maryland Climate Coalition\, Chesapeake Climate Action Network\, Maryland League of Conservation Voters\, Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club\, Interfaith Power & Light\, Maryland Legislative Coalition\, 350.org \n\nTo register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rebuild-maryland-the-peoples-climate-summit-tickets-10-tickets-79743883101
