SUMMARY:Extending the Pollinator Buffet into Fall & Winter
DESCRIPTION:Fall is typically a time when most gardens begin to wind down and the floral buffet for pollinators dwindles.  How can you keep the color show going in your backyard right up until frost while providing food sources for insects and wildlife? \nThis interactive workshop will cover late season blooming perennials\, shrubs and grasses that add garden interest during fall and winter. The workshop\, taught by RainScapes program staff\, will combine an in-class presentation followed by a walking tour of Brookside Gardens to see a range of fall blooming plants up close. Plant lists will focus on native plants and offer late-blooming cultivar options for a variety of garden conditions ranging from dry shade to RainScapes.

SUMMARY:Lighten Up! Lemons & LEDs Bulb Swap - Olney Library
DESCRIPTION:What is Lighten Up?\nNow that things are opening up again\, we want to bring you some fun in the sun! What’s a summer without a lemonade stand? This new initiative as part of Montgomery Energy Connection is an opportunity for residents to exchange their old incandescent and compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs for energy efficient LED light bulbs. \nWe will be setting up Lemonade Stands at Community\, Recreation\, and Senior Centers. Libraries\, and Farmers’ Markets throughout the summer. While we won’t have actual lemons or lemonade\, we do have a lemon treat and tons of LEDs!!! \nThe goal of these outreach events is to bring residents tips to help brighten their homes and lower their utility bills! As we say at the Lemonade Stand\, “lemons are sour\, saving money is sweet” \nJoin us! \nMost of our events take place outside\, weather permitting. If we move inside\, we will have signs directing you to the location and will be following all County guidelines for COVID. \nENERGY ACTION MONTH 2021 \n\n\n\nOlney\, 3500 Olney-Laytonsville Rd.\, Olney – Friday\, Oct. 22\, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.\n\nFor more information and other dates\, visit https://mygreenmontgomery.org/2021/lighten-up/

SUMMARY:Audubon Naturalist Society Annual Meeting 2021
DESCRIPTION:ANS ANNUAL MEETING 2021\nThursday\, October 21 • 6 – 9 PM\nWoodend Nature Sanctuary\, 8940 Jones Mill Rd.\, Chevy Chase\, MD and Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCalling all ANS Members and Supporters!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur 2021 Annual Meeting will celebrate the many ways we’ve thrived during the pandemic and adapted to change\, including the completion of our wheelchair accessible nature trail and stream restoration at Woodend Nature Sanctuary. \nANS members will vote on candidates for the Board of Directors. You’ll find profiles of the Board candidates nominated by the Governance Committee HERE. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial Guest Speaker: Mark Garland\nANS is honored to welcome award-winning naturalist Mark Garland as our featured speaker. Mark has been leading nature tours for more than 35 years\, running his own company since 2005\, and his wanderlust preceded his tour leading. \nIn March\, 2020\, the COVID-19 pandemic brought his travel and his business to a sudden halt. The following year brought uncertainty\, fear\, isolation\, sadness\, and a wide range or related emotions to us all. Mark couldn’t travel\, he couldn’t take folks out on nature walks\, but he could still go on walks by himself. That’s what he did\, every day\, always close to home and always with his camera in tow. Mark also virtually shared his experiences and adventures as one of the most popular presenters for our ongoing Naturalist Hour online talks. \nFollow Mark through his COVID year\, through some of the lows\, and see how birds and nature provided the necessary balm to get through that year\, providing some surprise discoveries along the way. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n________________________\n\nThe evening event will also include recognition of our dedicated volunteers and Natural History Field Studies graduates\, and much more.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease RSVP to this free event by registering online using the form to the right by Friday\, October 15. In-person attendance is limited. A virtual viewing option will be available.\nIf we are unable to meet in person because of government gathering restrictions due to COVID\, we will hold the Annual Meeting entirely virtually.

This results in restoration of almost 400 acres of wetland habitat where more than 400 different species of wildlife have been documented and more than 30 different birds have been confirmed as nesting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information. \n\n\nRegister Here.
