SUMMARY:Extending the Pollinator Buffet into Fall & Winter
DESCRIPTION:Fall is typically a time when most gardens begin to wind down and the floral buffet for pollinators dwindles.  How can you keep the color show going in your backyard right up until frost while providing food sources for insects and wildlife? \nThis interactive workshop will cover late season blooming perennials\, shrubs and grasses that add garden interest during fall and winter. The workshop\, taught by RainScapes program staff\, will combine an in-class presentation followed by a walking tour of Brookside Gardens to see a range of fall blooming plants up close. Plant lists will focus on native plants and offer late-blooming cultivar options for a variety of garden conditions ranging from dry shade to RainScapes.

You’ll find profiles of the Board candidates nominated by the Governance Committee HERE. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial Guest Speaker: Mark Garland\nANS is honored to welcome award-winning naturalist Mark Garland as our featured speaker. Mark has been leading nature tours for more than 35 years\, running his own company since 2005\, and his wanderlust preceded his tour leading. \nIn March\, 2020\, the COVID-19 pandemic brought his travel and his business to a sudden halt. The following year brought uncertainty\, fear\, isolation\, sadness\, and a wide range or related emotions to us all. Mark couldn’t travel\, he couldn’t take folks out on nature walks\, but he could still go on walks by himself. That’s what he did\, every day\, always close to home and always with his camera in tow. Mark also virtually shared his experiences and adventures as one of the most popular presenters for our ongoing Naturalist Hour online talks. \nFollow Mark through his COVID year\, through some of the lows\, and see how birds and nature provided the necessary balm to get through that year\, providing some surprise discoveries along the way. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n________________________\n\nThe evening event will also include recognition of our dedicated volunteers and Natural History Field Studies graduates\, and much more.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease RSVP to this free event by registering online using the form to the right by Friday\, October 15. This environmental restoration project located in the Chesapeake Bay in Talbot County\, Maryland\, relies on dredged material collected from the approach channels to the Baltimore Harbor to restore lost remote island habitat within the Chesapeake Bay. This conference\, from Resilient Virginia\, will bring national and local perspectives on solutions being formulated to address vulnerabilities while moving forward to create a more economically sound and equitable future. \nLeaders in Energy is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its 8th Annual Green Jobs Forum with Resilient Virginia this year.   The Resilient Virginia Conference will take place virtually from August 25-27\, 2021.  The Leaders in Energy Green Jobs Forum & Career Fair will take place on Thursday\, August 26\, 2021.   Because it is a virtual conference\, attendees will be able to attend the entire conference as part of their registration. \nThe Leaders in Energy Forum will take place on Thursday\, August 26th\, from 1:30 – 4:00 pm EDT\, and the livestream portion of the Career Fair from 4:30 – 6:30 pm EDT. \nWe are reaching out to employers as well as educators who offer certifications in the clean energy and sustainability sectors to be our exhibitors. \nWe will be using the virtual Whova platform which allows you to maximize your brand awareness and attract more job applicants by posting job openings\, uploading your company videos and brochures\, setting up live info sessions\, and adding promotional materials including raffles or giveaways.  You can also see more details in the Career Fair brochure here. \nThe Career Fair exhibitor cost is $150.  This also includes a ticket to the entire three-day conference.  It also entitles the exhibitor to make a brief presentation at our livestream Career Fair event taking place from 4:30-6:30 pm EDT.  There are also sponsorships to introduce the panel sessions at the Green Jobs Forum. \nAttendee registration is now open along with exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities.  Register and learn more below.

Experience this enormous transcontinental transport of tiny particles with ANS Adult Programs Director Serenella Linares! Every year\, many tons of dust travel from Africa to the Americas carrying a slew of creatures and minerals. Those particles fertilize marine plankton in the Atlantic\, as well as the canopy of trees in the Amazon rainforest. Dust storms are also vectors for pathogens in their trajectory.
