SUMMARY:Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade \nHeld in downtown Silver Spring\, the exciting parade traditionally heralds the start of the holiday season.  The parade steps off from Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street and proceeds south on Georgia Avenue\, ending at Silver Spring Avenue.  \nLooking for a safe and fun outdoor family event for the holidays? The Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade will usher in the holiday season on Saturday\, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. \nThe parade kicks off with the thrilling sounds of marching bands\, spinners with gold and orange hoops and streamers\, and Thanksgiving-themed costumes and units\, as well as a 12-foot turkey. Brian van de Graaff\, ABC7 meteorologist\, will be returning as the parade emcee.  \nIn this year’s parade\, the Chanukah celebratory units appear early on because Chanukah comes early this year\, just after Thanksgiving. The parade is filled with gymnasts and tumblers\, performing dogs\, colorful Mexican\, Peruvian\, and Bolivian dancing groups\, fire trucks\, music\, colorful inflatable characters\, and ends with Christmas trees\, reindeer\, presents\, elves\, and Santa! Special performances include dances from The Nutcracker’s The Waltz of the Flowers by the Maryland Youth Ballet and Akhmedova Ballet’s choreographed interpretation of ice skating at the Silver Spring Rink. \nFamilies in attendance will be able to socially distance themselves\, as the parade route continues for a mile along Ellsworth Drive\, to and along Georgia Avenue\, ending at Spring Street. The best area for those seeking more personal space is Georgia Avenue\, since Ellsworth Drive can become quite crowded. All attendees are encouraged to wear masks to keep the community\, our neighbors\, and our young people safe.   \nMore information about the parade can be found at: https://www.silverspringdowntown.com/montgomery-county-thanksgiving-parade. You can also call MC311 at 3-1-1 (or 240-777-0311 if outside the County) Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Webinar Series: Montgomery County Stream Restoration Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:Stream restoration is a complicated and passionate debate for many and can even be quite polarizing. It is not a black and white subject and can contain a lot of grey depending on perspectives. For this reason\, Montgomery County has created a webinar series to discuss the topic and various aspects of the County’s restoration program\, the techniques used in practice\, and future planning efforts. \nThe webinar series will kick off with an opportunity for residents to speak on stream restoration during a listening session on November 17\, 2021 at 7pm moderated by Sadie Drescher\, Chesapeake Bay Trust.  The session will be recorded\, and a summary will be provided to attendees. \nThe listening session will help shape the remainder of the webinar series (all sessions will be recorded and available to the public). The County values its residents and their experiences and wants to listen and learn from them. We hope you can join us throughout the webinar series so we can learn from each other and ensure Montgomery County has a clear blueprint for restoration success. \nWebinar Series\nMontgomery County Stream Restoration Listening Session\nNovember 17\, 2021\, 7pm – 8:30pm \nRegistration: bit.ly/MCStreamListen  \nResidents interested in speaking can sign up for a 5-minute time slot at: bit.ly/3p19vlA \nThe purpose of the listening session is to: \n\n\n\nhear from Montgomery County residents about stream restoration\,\nhelp guide the content of the remaining webinars in the series.\n\n\n\nWhen registering for the listening session consider these 2 questions to help DEP build the remainder of the webinar series: \n\n\n\nWhat is one top action you would like DEP to do to improve stream restoration?\nWhat one stream restoration topic would you most like to learn more about from DEP?\n\n\n\nFor more information:\nhttps://mygreenmontgomery.org/2021/public-invited-to-stream-restoration-webinar-series/

SUMMARY:Lighten Up! Lemons & LEDs Bulb Swap - Potomac Library
DESCRIPTION:What is Lighten Up?\nNow that things are opening up again\, we want to bring you some fun in the sun! What’s a summer without a lemonade stand? This new initiative as part of Montgomery Energy Connection is an opportunity for residents to exchange their old incandescent and compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs for energy efficient LED light bulbs. \nWe will be setting up Lemonade Stands at Community\, Recreation\, and Senior Centers. Libraries\, and Farmers’ Markets throughout the summer. While we won’t have actual lemons or lemonade\, we do have a lemon treat and tons of LEDs!!! \nThe goal of these outreach events is to bring residents tips to help brighten their homes and lower their utility bills! As we say at the Lemonade Stand\, “lemons are sour\, saving money is sweet” \nJoin us! \nMost of our events take place outside\, weather permitting. If we move inside\, we will have signs directing you to the location and will be following all County guidelines for COVID. \nENERGY ACTION MONTH 2021 \n\n\n\nPotomac\, 10101 Glenolden Drive\, Potomac – Saturday\, Oct. 23\, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.\n\n\n\nFor more information and other dates\, visit https://mygreenmontgomery.org/2021/lighten-up/

SUMMARY:Extending the Pollinator Buffet into Fall & Winter
DESCRIPTION:Fall is typically a time when most gardens begin to wind down and the floral buffet for pollinators dwindles.  How can you keep the color show going in your backyard right up until frost while providing food sources for insects and wildlife? \nThis interactive workshop will cover late season blooming perennials\, shrubs and grasses that add garden interest during fall and winter. The workshop\, taught by RainScapes program staff\, will combine an in-class presentation followed by a walking tour of Brookside Gardens to see a range of fall blooming plants up close. Plant lists will focus on native plants and offer late-blooming cultivar options for a variety of garden conditions ranging from dry shade to RainScapes.
