SUMMARY:Reducing the Carbon Footprint of Fossil Energy: In Search of the Next Better
DESCRIPTION:“Reducing the Carbon Footprint of Fossil Energy: In Search of the Next Better” \n \nWednesday\, May 29th; 5:30 – 8:30 PM \nIndustrious Ballston\, 4201 Wilson Boulevard Arlington\, VA 22203 \nHow can we reduce the carbon footprint of fossil energy through carbon capture and renewable hydrogen? Hydrogen and carbon are the building blocks of our hydrocarbon planet. Kicking the fossil carbon habit means developing technologies for a ‘new carbon economy’. Products of this new carbon economy can cover the full array of the things we use every day.\n \nBill Brandon\, the Chief Technology and Research Officer and Vice President for Leaders in Energy (LE) and the President and CEO of Industrial Ecosystems Partners (IEP) will be our moderator and a speaker. This article by Bill Brandon examines a number of related topics including how Germany is experimenting with producing methane from waste CO2 and H2 produced from excess renewable power capacity (see more on the Shell electrolysis plant in our Bookmarked section). In addition\, renewable hydrogen can be combined with waste CO2 to make liquid fuels. \nLearn more about our program here. Register below. Early bird discounts through May 22nd. Job seeker and student discounts also available. Ticket includes program\, pizza\, and beverages. \nThanks also to the Amir D. Aczel Foundation for Research and Education in Science and Mathematics and Industrious Ballston for their sponsorship of this event. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Environmental Film Festival @ Brookside Gardens: The Human Element
DESCRIPTION:Environmental Film Festival @ Brookside Gardens:\nThe Human Element\n\nThe Montgomery County GreenFest partners are proud to join the DC Environmental Film Festival to present three documentary screenings in April at Brookside Gardens. These environmentally themed films are offered as part of Earth Day educational activities and lead up to GreenFest\, which is Montgomery County’s largest environmental festival. GreenFest will take place on Sunday\, April 28 from 11am – 4pm at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton\, MD. For more information about GreenFest\, please visit https://montgomerycountygreenfest.org/\n\n\n\nThe Human Element\nDirector: Matthew Testa (United States\, 2018\, 76 min.)\nTuesday\, April 23 / 6:30pm – 8:30pm\nFree; registration required\nLocation: Brookside Gardens Visitor Center Auditorium \nProgram # 67785\n\nFor more information and to register: \nhttp://apm.activecommunities.com/montgomerycounty/Activity_Search/62798\n\nRenowned photographer James Balog (Chasing Ice) uses his camera to reveal how environmental change is affecting the lives of everyday Americans. Following the four classical elements — air\, earth\, fire\, and water — to frame his journey\, Balog explores wildfires\, hurricanes\, sea level rise\, coal mining\, and the changes in the air we breathe. With compassion and heart\, this film tells an urgent story while giving inspiration for a more balanced relationship between humanity and nature.
