Gilead Rd.\, Reisterstown\, MD 21136 \nPlease plan to join us for our 12th Annual Conference when we will bring together project participants and people committed to Chesapeake Bay watershed restoration. \nOur meeting will focus on cutting-edge research about the impacts of organophosphate pesticides on children and the Bay watershed\, the relationship between pesticides and climate change\, and pesticide impacts on pollinators. \nPresenters: \nKeynote: Learning from the Struggles of Science Policy to Protect Public Health \nDevon Payne-Sturgis\, DrPH\, is an Assistant Professor of Applied Environmental Health at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. Her expertise is in children’s environmental health\, risk assessment and environmental health policy. She previously was with US EPA\, managing a portfolio that included research on the effects of organophosphate pesticides\, such as chlorpyrifos\, on children’s health.  \nPesticides and Climate Change \nRobert Musil\, PhD\, MPH\, is President and CEO of the Rachel Carson Council\, and from 1992-2004 was the longest-serving executive director of Physicians for Social Responsibility. He will speak on pesticides and climate change\, which is a focus of the Council.  \nImpact of Pesticides on the Bay Watershed \nDoug Myers is Maryland Senior Scientist for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. He will discuss the state of pesticides and the Bay watershed. He holds an MS in Environmental Science. \nImpacts of Pesticides on Pollinators \nJosephine Johnson\, PhD\, is a honeybee research scientist and teaches various environmental science courses at Stevenson University and Maryland Institute College of Art. She will discuss the impacts of pesticides on pollinators. \nGreg Allen\, PhD\, Environmental Scientist for the EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP)\, will be our moderator for the day and will update us on the Chesapeake Bay Program. \n  \nRegistration:  \nDiscount by 9/25: $25 \nAfter 9/25: $35 \nRegistration closes October 9 \nDue to increasing per person costs for this day-long conference\, we are instituting a registration fee to help defray our per person costs.  \nAn organic breakfast\, lunch & snacks will be served at no additional charge. DESCRIPTION:Join OMG as we sweep the creek with the Friends of Sligo Creek for their Fall Sweep the Creek to be held on Sunday\, September 30 from 1-3 pm. \nSection 9: Upstream from University Sunday\, September 30\, from 1-3pm: Kemp Mill Shopping Center at the intersection of Arcola Ave. and Lamberton Dr. Meet between Shalom Kosher Mart and the foot path.\n__________ \nWe welcome individuals\, groups\, families\, and students—students can receive service-learning credit for their work (we provide the forms and signatures). We provide gloves\, bags\, water\, and guidance on what help is most needed in each section (some sections may also request help with removing invasive plants). Occupied in the Fall Semester 2014 the building contains offices\, classrooms\, laboratories\, computer labs\, a conference center and a high performance central heating and cooling plant. \nJoin USGBC-NCR’s Montgomery County Committee for a presenation that will discuss the planning\, design and construction of this facility\, providing insight into unique sustainability features such as the College’s amplified commissioning requirements\, photovoltaics\, and a central chilled and hot water plant with ice thermal storage\, ammonia refrigeration\, and a frictionless chiller. The presentation will discuss the extensive site development\, which included infrastructure for the new Holy Cross Hospital\, re-alignment and installation of major roadway systems\, realignment of major WSSC water distribution infrastructure\, forest conservation and tree stand delineation\, and storm water management studies. DESCRIPTION:KIDfest\nThe DC Region’s largest annual family festival celebrating creativity and innovation.\n\n\n\nGadgets\, games\, robots\, and so much to do and see –Montgomery County is hosting KIDfest on Sunday\, September 23rd at Veteran’s Plaza and the Silver Spring Civic Building in Silver Spring\, from 12:00-5:00p.m. The festival features free family activities and innovative projects. \nHands-on activities like driving robots through mazes\, 3D printing\, wind chime making\, and so much more! Festival attendees can meet an advanced robotic seal that responds to voice and touch\, use wildflowers to create paints\, explore an on-site inflatable planetarium\, build electronic circuits\, modify codes\, and play handcrafted musical instruments. \nAt the KID Museum area\, visitors are invited to interact with a giant automaton\, try out kid-created pinball\, take part in a community loom\, connect pipes for a super-sized ball run\, and play with a robotic balloon pop (aka “bot pop”). KID Museum educators and KID’s high school Coding Corps members will provide free coding jams at the event\, as well as other coding and robotics opportunities. In addition\, visitors can try their hand at projects from KID Museum’s woodworking\, textiles\, and electronics studios. \nThe event is free and open to all.
