SUMMARY:The Humane Gardener
DESCRIPTION:The Humane Gardener with speaker Nancy Lawson \n\n\n\nThe Takoma Horticultural Club Presents \n \n“The Humane Gardener”\nSpeaker Nancy Lawson\n\nWednesday\, November 15\, 7:30 to 9:00pm\nHistoric Takoma\, Inc.\, 7328 Carroll Ave.\, Takoma Park\, MD\nDid you know that most bees nest underground\, not in hives? She will be selling and signing her book at the talk. SUMMARY:Northwest Branch Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Northwest Branch Clean up \nSaturday\, October 28\, 9:30 – 11:30 am \nBurnt Mills Park East\, just south of Trader Joe’s shopping center (downstream side of Colesville Rd.) \n \nWith every rain\, storm water surges down the Northwest Branch carrying trash down from all of the neighborhoods lucky enough to border the park.  Sometimes the water gushes from the end of the stormdrain system\, and sometimes water simply flows down the streets directly into the creek. That’s why we encourage folks to install conservation landscaping to trap as much storm water as possible and reduce runoff.  And that’s also why the Neighbors of the Northwest Branch sponsors cleanups fall and spring. The accumulated trash – bottles\, paper\, plastic\, Styrofoam\, etc. – must be removed from the stream before it does further damage to this natural treasure.  Not only is trash ugly to look at\, it is a health hazard for wildlife…and us.  And of course\, trash breeds more trash.   \n \nSo please join us at Burnt Mills Park East\, across Colesville Rd. from the dam. We’ll provide simple instructions\, tools\, gloves\, and bags. Please wear long sleeves\, long pants\, and shoes that can get muddy.  Please also bring water\, although water needs will be less than when it’s hot. As a special bonus\, if you’ve never seen the water fall and huge boulders in the Burnt Mills section of YOUR stream\, now is your chance!  They are worth the visit.  For an advance peek at the boulders\, see the picture in the banner\, taken during another fall cleanup!  \n \nMany hands make light work!\n \nAnne Ambler \nVice President \nanambler@gmail.com   \n
