SUMMARY:Fighting Diesel Pollution through the Clean Trucks Act of 2022
DESCRIPTION:Fighting Diesel Pollution through the Clean Trucks Act of 2022\nMon\, Jan 10\, 2022  •  7:00 PM  – 8:30 PM \n\nMaryland Chapter\, Sierra Club\n\nEvent Organizer:  Lindsey Mendelson    lindsey.mendelson@mdsierra.org \n\n\n\nTransportation is the #1 source of climate change pollution and a leading source of toxic air pollution in Maryland. Trucks account for 10% of vehicles on the road but disproportionately contribute 30% of carbon emissions and 57% of particulate matter (PM2.5) emitted by the entire transportation sector\, along with high nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and others. \nLast summer\, California made history by setting the first in the nation Zero Emission Truck sales standards through adoption of the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule. By electrifying large pickup trucks\, delivery trucks and semi-trucks\, the Advanced Clean Truck Rule is one important tool in the effort to help transform the freight industry for a healthier and more sustainable future for all. California has adopted this regulation and Maryland signed onto a regional commitment to electrify medium and heavy duty vehicles. Now is the time to enact legislation in Maryland to help transform the freight industry! \nThe event will have presentations on the health and climate effects of diesel exhaust\, the details of what the Advanced Clean Truck Rule would accomplish and what other states have done to date. The event will also feature stories from individuals that are affected by diesel truck pollution and efforts that they are working on to combat it. Please join us to learn how to clean the air for all! \nRegister to receive the zoom link. \nSpeakers: \nComing soon! \nSponsors so far: \n\nChesapeake Climate Action Network\nEarthjustice\nElders Climate Action DMV\nLabor Network for Sustainability\nMaryland League of Conservation Voters\nMaryland Sierra Club\nUnion of Concerned Scientists

SUMMARY:EcoEvenings with DEP and OMG: Learn About Neighborhood Initiatives to Green Your Community
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, January 26  •  6:30 – 8:00 pm \nWITH SPECIAL GUESTS \n \nDavid Gershon is one of the world’s foremost experts in empowerment and transformative social change. Over the past 30 years he has developed programs and strategies that have empowered millions of people worldwide to reduce their carbon and overall environmental footprint and hundreds of cities to become more sustainable. One academic study described his empowerment methodology as “unsurpassed in changing behavior.” David has won many awards including his Cool City Challenge initiative winning the prestigious NASA global competition as “the most outstanding solution in addressing human impact on the planet’s sustainability.” David will speak about the Cool Block/Cool City Challenge https://coolblock.org/ \nRezwan Razani is a writer\, planner\, game designer and the founder of Footprint to Wings (FP2W)\, an organization dedicated to turning the “Race to Zero Carbon” into a national pastime. We see the climate crisis as not so much a science communication problem\, but rather a solutions negotiation problem. Powered by a Constellation E2 Energy to Educate grant\, FP2W has recently joined forces with the Student Global Ambassador Program (SGAP Leaders) and Catholic University of America (CUA) to close the “knowledge-action gap” in climate solutions among underserved youth. Rezwan will speak about how to move up and down the solution scale to make sure solutions connect and add up; and to clarify the gaps and conflicts when they don’t.
