SUMMARY:ANS Conservation Cafe: Bird Conservation is Actually All About Humans
DESCRIPTION:ANS Conservation Cafe:\nBird Conservation is Actually All About Humans \nWednesday\, June 1  •  7 – 8:30 pm \nYou are invited to join us Wednesday\, June 1st\, 7pm – 8:30pm (ET)  for a discussion with Tykee James\, Co-Found of Amplify the Future and current President of DC Audubon\, for this talk during Black Birders Week. \nBird conservation: So much of what drives our ability to conserve birds and other wildlife is really about managing our own human behaviors\, which requires us to look inside – what motivates us? What do we really want on our landscapes? How much do we need\, and who gets to decide? \nJoin us virtually ($10-$15) for this discussion!\nClick here to register! \nMeet Tykee James \nTykee James is the Government Affairs Coordinator for the National Audubon Society\, and sits on the board of directors of the D.C. Audubon Society (where he now serves as President)\, Wyncote Audubon Society\, Audubon Maryland-DC\, the Birding Co-op\, and the Academy of Natural Sciences. \nAfter moving to DC\, he has grounded himself in his special role: organizing bird walks with members of Congress and congressional staff! James has built residency in this work from his experience in Philadelphia\, his hometown. His first job was an environmental educator and community organizer in his own neighborhood. He also served as an environmental policy advisor to a state representative. James develops himself as a leader through his fellowship with the Environmental Leadership Program and membership with the Green Leadership Trust. In his personal time\, he is the audio producer for Wildlife Observer Network\, a wildlife media project he started with some wildlife-friendly friends in Philly.

SUMMARY:Capitol Hill Ocean Week 2022 – Sea: The Future
DESCRIPTION:Capitol Hill Ocean Week 2022 – Sea: The Future \nHYBRID EVENT \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRonald Reagan Building and International Trade Center\n\n\n1300 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest\nWashington\, DC 20004\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJune 7\, 2022 – June 8\, 2022\n\n\nHYBRID EVENT OVERVIEW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are excited to announce that Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) will be a hybrid conference this year! This means you can attend and participate in-person in Washington\, DC or from anywhere using our virtual platform. Through our platform\, Swapcard\, we are bringing the live conference experience to you! We will be streaming all LIVE in-person sessions and even have some virtual only sessions to keep the conversation going. \n\n\n\n\n\n_______________________________ \nIn 1972\, the United States enacted a wave of legislation—the Marine Protection\, Research and Sanctuaries Act\, the Marine Mammal Protection Act\, the Coastal Zone Management Act and amendments to the Clean Water Act—to sustain our ocean\, coasts\, and Great Lakes.  \nToday\, 50 years later\, we face new challenges. Climate change and biodiversity loss are fundamentally changing our ocean and Great Lakes. Coastal development increases pressures on ecosystems and communities. Multiple demands on resources and space lead to challenging policy and regulatory questions regarding how to best manage uses and sustain livelihoods. At the same time\, coastal communities face a multitude of other issues\, including migration and displacement\, loss of culture\, and ensuring equitable access to nature and resources. \nThese challenges all share a common solution: people.   \nThe decisions that we make today will have long-term impacts on the health of our blue planet. Join us for Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) from June 7 – 9\, 2022\, to celebrate the 50 years of progress achieved and to set a course for the new policies and actions necessary to transform our future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo programming notes: \n\nCHOW 2021 focused on building a more racially just movement for our ocean\, coasts\, and Great Lakes. At that conference\, we committed to making diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and belonging an inherent part of CHOW and our work. CHOW 2022 will bring diverse perspectives and address how to make conservation\, science\, and policy efforts more inclusive and equitable.\nClimate change impacts our ocean\, coasts\, and Great Lakes and the communities that rely on them. It affects every topic we will discuss at CHOW 2022.\n\nCapitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW)\, convened by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation\, is a multi-day conference that convenes policymakers\, scientists\, managers\, business leaders\, conservationists\, educators\, students\, and members of the public to engage in dialogue and debate on significant issues that impact our ocean and Great Lakes and to propose innovative policies and partnerships to address these issues \nCHOW 2022 is open to the public and free to attendees. The Foundation relies on the generous support of sponsors to host CHOW. \n\nFOR MORE INFORMATION \nTO REGISTER

SUMMARY:Poor People's Low Wage Workers' Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls
DESCRIPTION:Poor People’s Low Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls \nSaturday\, June 18 @ 9 am \n3rd & Pennsylvania Ave\, NW \n  \nOn Saturday\, June 18\, the Poor People’s Campaign (PPC) is holding the Poor People’s Low Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls. We are writing to invite you to join us as we head to the Mall that day for this historic\, critical March.   \nWhy should a climate action activist head down to the Assembly and Moral March? \n350MoCo is rallying at the March to support the PPC’s focus on acting against the interlocking injustices of systemic racism\, poverty\, ecological devastation\, militarism and the war economy. We clearly see that poverty and inequality muffle the voices and suppress the votes of the marginalized in our country\, allowing the economic system that drives climate devastation to continue and spread. Joining the March is a step in favor of climate justice\, towards greater equality and towards restoring our democracy to full health. \nWe won’t be alone in joining the March. A wide array of organizations involved in climate and social justice – labor groups\, the ACLU\, Children’s Defense Fund and our own local CCAN – are sponsors. Let’s swell the numbers on this great event! \nThe March will start at 10:00 AM on Saturday\, June 18\, at 3rd Street and Pennsylvania Avenue\, NW. 350MoCo will meet at 9:00 AM at the top of the Judiciary Square Metro stop\, by the National Building Museum entrance. We’re encouraged to wear 350MoCo t-shirts to show the wide array of groups stepping out in support of the March. Just let me know if you need a t-shirt. Signs and banners are allowed\, but no poles or sticks. More details are available on page 10 of the March Organizers’ Guide.   \nPlease join us! Sign up here to let us know you’re interested. See you in DC on Saturday\, June 18\, 9:00 AM!
