On Campaign Day\, “street scientist” volunteers will drive around the county to collect data to determine urban heat islands. The symposium will take place virtually on August 11th and 12th\, 2022\, and in-person on Saturday\, August 13th\, 2022 at the University of Maryland Stamp Student Union. \nLast year the Center for Community Engagement\, Environmental Justice\, and Health (CEEJH) presented an impactful symposium during the Pandemic with 40 dynamic sessions\, more than 100 excellent speakers from around the county and the world. 1500 people registered including stakeholders from impacted communities worldwide\, EJ groups\, green groups\, academia\, government\, policymakers\, workers\, and business/industry. This year\, our Symposium’s theme is “Energy vs Power: Visions for the Future”\, highlighting energy justice\, climate change\, power dynamics in environmental justice\, and the use of technology in environmental justice work. DESCRIPTION:USGBC NCR Presents: LEED Building Tour The Wheaton Building\n\nThe Wheaton Building\, 11219 Grandview Ave\, Wheaton\, MD 20902 \nWed\, August 24\, 2022  |  3:00 PM – 4:30 PM EDT \nJoin us in the chance to tour the amazing Wheaton Building. \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nThe Wheaton Revitalization project represents a great achievement for Montgomery County – with nearly 40 months of construction and a budget of $179 million\, it’s one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the County in a public-private partnership. The new 308\,000 14-story office building is now home to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and six County agencies\, including the Department of Permitting Services\, the Department of Environmental Protection\, the Department of Health and Human Services\, the Department of Recreation\, the Office of Community Use of Public Facilities and the Mid-County Regional Services Office. \nThe project broke ground in June 2017 and completed construction in September 2020. The building achieved LEEDv2009 Commercial Interiors (CI) Gold certification and LEEDv2009 Core & Shell (CS) Platinum certification in 2021. In addition to the office building\, the project includes ground-floor retail\, plaza spaces\, a new Town Square for hosting public events and a four-level below-grade public parking structure.
