SUMMARY:Leaders in Energy – Regeneration Series: Electrify Everything
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Regeneration Series: Electrify Everything”  \nWebinar: Wednesday\, December 11\, from 1:00 to 2:15 pm ET \nThis virtual event is on electrification and its key role in decarbonizing our energy system. It’s the second webinar in LE’s Regeneration series inspired by Paul Hawken’s book\, “Regeneration: Ending the climate crisis in one generation” and his organization “Regeneration.” Both provide an encyclopedic list of solutions to address the climate crisis and the regeneration of planetary ecosystems.  \nScientists are expecting Earth’s global average temperature in 2024 to be the hottest on record\, surpassing 2023 as the titleholder\, with fossil fuels contributing to more than three-quarters of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We need to change how we use energy in our daily lives\, communities\, and collective society\, and we can do it. \nAccording to physicist Saul Griffith\, if we electrify the whole world economy\, using “clean” electricity and efficient technologies\, we would need less than half of the primary energy we currently use. It’s not a straight line\, but there are paths forward. For example: \n\nThe use of clean\, efficient electric alternatives in our homes and businesses\, e.g.\, appliances\, vehicles\, etc.\, could reduce nearly half our carbon emissions and buy time to handle sectors that are more difficult to decarbonize\, including industry\, agriculture\, freight transport\, and long-haul aviation.\nElectrifying everything will reduce overall energy use\, but still requires doubling the amount of electricity by 2050 to meet increased expected demand. \nWe need to account for data centers for artificial intelligence\, cryptocurrency computing\, and electric vehicles which are increasing demand.\nChanges to the consumer culture which presently eats up significant energy — via food/waste\, apparel\, travel choices\, and the individual ownership of products with planned obsolescence.\n\nRegister here: https://leadersinenergy.org/event/regeneration-series-electrify-everything-december-112024/
