In 2011, two separate grassroots environmental groups, GreenWheaton and Silver Spring Green, independently embarked on missions to promote sustainability and environmental awareness within Montgomery County, Maryland. They shared a vision of fostering a greener, more resilient, and equitable future, but their impact was limited by working in isolation.

Recognizing the potential for greater influence and realizing that lessons learned were more impactful when working together, GreenWheaton and Silver Spring Green merged in 2017 to form a united force: One Montgomery Green (OMG). This merger not only strengthened their commitment to their shared mission but also expanded their reach and capacity.

One Montgomery Green serves a diverse population, with a focus on the Wheaton and Silver Spring areas and including East County. These areas represent some of the most culturally and demographically diverse populations in the county, making them a vital area for sustainability efforts.
