What Is Hispanic Heritage Month?
From September 15 to October 15, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the heritage, history, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic Americans. Started in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. Over 20.5% of Montgomery County’s population are individuals of Latino or Hispanic origin (as of 2020). Montgomery County has the largest Hispanic population in Maryland. This festival’s goal is to celebrate and embrace Montgomery County’s growing diversity, honor Hispanic heritage, and promote a greater understanding and appreciation of its diverse traditions, history, and achievements.
