Neighbors of the Northwest Branch Hike to Rachel Carson House
September 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Neighbors of the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River Hike to Rachel Carson House
It’s hard to believe summer is almost over, but it’s already time to plan ahead for September! Did you know that Rachel Carson lived for a number of years high above the Northwest Branch and enjoyed this same stream valley that we do? The Neighbors of the Northwest Branch invite you to hike with us to Rachel Carson’s house. There we’ll be treated to refreshments and a presentation about Rachel Carson’s important role in calling out the harm of pesticides.
WHAT: Autumn hike and visit to the Rachel Carson house
WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 16, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the house)
STARTING POINT: Burnt Mills Dam (upstream side of Colesville Rd., parking available)
The round trip to the house from the Burnt Mills Dam is a bit over 4 miles, hilly terrain, nice views. After visiting the house, we’ll hike back to the Burnt Mills Dam. Or if you’re not into hiking this time, please simply meet us at the Rachel Carson house at 11:00 a.m., 11701 Berwick Rd.
Experience early autumn along the Rachel Carson Trail, learn about Ms. Carson’s legacy, and learn how you might contribute to protecting this beautiful local resource! For more information or to let us know you’re coming, please contact President James Graham at jamesgraham360@gmail.com. RSVP is not required, but sure would be helpful!
