Montgomery County, Maryland—One Montgomery Green (OMG), Integrative Strategies Forum (ISF), Poolesville Green (PG) and the Office of Councilmember Tom Hucker are organizing affiliate event in September to address climate change efforts in Montgomery County. These events are in conjunction with the Global Climate Action Summit, September 12-14, 2018, in San Francisco. The national Summit will bring together leaders from state and local governments, business, and citizens from around the world, to demonstrate how the tide has turned in the race against climate change, showcase climate action taking place around the world, and inspire deeper commitments from each other and from national governments. Affiliate events provide an opportunity to create additional, local programs for exploring climate challenges and solutions that complement Summit activities.
The Montgomery County affiliate events will incorporate the input of county leaders and organizations addressing climate change. A public briefing that highlights local efforts, goals and opportunities to engage in action to reduce climate change will be held on the evening of September 12, 2018 at the Montgomery County Council Office Building in Rockville, MD.
“We need action, not just talk, to address climate change. I am delighted to be working with One Montgomery Green, Integrative Strategies Forum, and Poolesville Green to press forward on the county’s ambitious goals to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker.
“Addressing climate change is vital to maintaining the quality of life in Montgomery County,” said One Montgomery Green Executive Director Wendy Howard. “We are looking forward to convening these climate action events with the input and insights of local organizations that have global visions and are committed to sustainability while securing a healthy future for all.”
“Montgomery County was the first county in the US to declare a climate emergency as well as the first to join the Under 2 Coalition,” said Karen Onthank, Executive Director of Integrative Strategies Forum. “We look forward to highlighting the many groups and individuals in this country working to address this threat to the future of our communities here and across the globe.”
