The truth is that the trash, pollution, chemicals and yard waste that flow into our storm drains eventually also flow into our local streams, which then pollutes our rivers and the Chesapeake Bay.
What can we do about this problem? The answer is educate!
Art for the Environment: The 2020 Contest
A key way that you can help us educate others is through your art. Use your creative skills to spread the word to stop litter and other pollution from ending up in our environment and eventually ending up in our waterways!
The Clean Water Art Contest seeks to use art to educate the public about the connection between our communities, streams, and the Bay. The winners will see their art painted on storm drains. This year we expanded the places where art may be displayed to include trash cans and bus ads in the County! Because of this we re-branded the name of the contest to the Clean Water Art Contest.
The 2019 winners had their art recreated on storm drains throughout Germantown. Many people walk past the art each year and inspired by the art to protect our environment and waterways. Artists of all ages participated.
