Denisse and Denis will talk about the cultural importance of birds in the Americas with special emphasis on the Andean condor and the golden eagle of their native countries (Ecuador and Mexico). They will also share stories from their personal experiences as Latinx researchers, practicing ornithology in the United States and abroad. Register Online.
*Denisse Guitarra holds a B.A in Biology, and MSC in Biodiversity, Wildlife, and Ecosystem Health. As a master’s student, she saw the need to do more research on her home country’s birds so she analyzed data to study the impacts of climate change on the endangered bird species of Ecuador. She now works as the MD Conservation Advocate for ANS.
*Denis Perez (pronounced Denise) earned a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology and has worked in both Mexico and the US conducting bird conservation research projects, community outreach, and environmental education. Later, she earned a Master’s degree in Range and Wildlife Management. Denis now works as an Environmental Educator at ANS.
