ANS Conservation Café: RISING TO THE CHALLENGE: A New Climate Reality in the Potomac River Region

November 17, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Audubon Naturalist Society Conservation Cafe

RISING TO THE CHALLENGE:
A New Climate Reality in the Potomac River Region

Wednesday, November 17, 7:00 – 8:30 pm

Higher high tides. Bigger big storms. More damaging floods. More dangerous heat. What else is coming to the DC region with the climate crisis? How can individuals and local governments help us all respond and thrive in response?

Please join the Audubon Naturalist Society and the wonderful scientists and advocates of the Potomac Conservancy, for a virtual evening about how the DC region will be shaped by climate change, and how we can contribute to solving the problem!

There will be plenty of time for audience questions and we would love to hear from you.

Join report author Audrey Ramming and Sara Amán, Director of Policy, Potomac Conservancy, for an introduction to the organization’s new report that lays out how the climate crisis is affecting our local region and what we can do to help. Read the report at potomacclimatereport.org.

Meet the Speakers

  • Audrey Ramming is the primary author of the “Rising to the Challenge” report. She is a recent graduate of Columbia University’s Master’s Program in Climate Science and Society. She also holds a dual degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Salisbury University. She has professional experience working in corporate governance as an ESG risk analyst for ISS and as a journalist/data analyst for GlacierHub – a website that explores the world’s remote high mountain glaciers through an interdisciplinary lens of science and culture. Her professional interests lie at the intersection of climate change, corporate responsibility, social equity, and the conservation of lands and waters on which all life depends.
  • Sara Amán is the Director of Policy at Potomac Conservancy, and Project Manager for the “Rising to the Challenge” local climate report. She has been passionately advocating for clean water, healthy lands, and safe communities for 15 years. Protecting our local drinking water, land, and public health is very personal for Sara, given that she started her environmental organizing & advocacy work as a teenager living in a frontline environmental justice community whose drinking water, air, soil, and bodies were being poisoned by industrial pollution. She earned a BA/MA in Environmental Policy from American University in Washington, D.C. In her free time, she loves to garden, cook, hike, meditate, sing, write poetry, and spend quality time with family, friends, & community.
All registered attendees will get an email prior to the Café with details on how to join the conversation.

Requested donation: $10-15.
