Felípe will tell stories and show images that illustrate what he’s learned about engaging the Latino community in conservation, both in person pre-Covid and now, when everything has changed. In dialogue with Audubon Naturalist Society’s Conservation Director, Eliza Cava, he will address the following questions, and take more from the audience:
How do Latino communities enjoy nature by comparison to mainstream, white communities?
What does a model of culturally relevant, linguistically appropriate citizen science projects look like?
What is a “transcreation” process of creating culturally relevant communication materials for new audiences, and how is it different from translation?
How does an organization or group transcend tokenism and get to true engagement that sets people up for success?
