Audubon Naturalist Hour: Dust in the Wind – Tiny Particles, Big Impacts
August 17, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Serenella Linares
Director of Adult Education, Audubon Naturalist Society
Did you know that Saharan dust storms have a big impact on soil, water, and human health in the Americas? Experience this enormous transcontinental transport of tiny particles with ANS Adult Programs Director Serenella Linares! Every year, many tons of dust travel from Africa to the Americas carrying a slew of creatures and minerals. Those particles fertilize marine plankton in the Atlantic, as well as the canopy of trees in the Amazon rainforest. Dust storms are also vectors for pathogens in their trajectory.
