Registration is now open for CLIMATE EMERGENCY: Montgomery County Responds, a town hall focusing on cutting greenhouse gases now.
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is among those participating in the Sept. 14 event, where top Montgomery County officials, environmental experts and local activists will discuss the County’s progress toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2027.
The town hall, being organized by several area groups, is designed to build broad support for a community-wide effort to combat climate change and will feature speakers, panel discussions and audience question and answer sessions. Citizens can sign up to work with local organizations and hear ideas on how to do their part.

Background: In September 2017, the Montgomery County Council adopted Resolution 18-974, declaring a climate emergency and pledging to reduce the County’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2027, and by 100 percent by 2035. Meeting these goals will require radical changes in energy use, transportation, and consumption.
