Eco Evenings with DEP and OMG

May 26, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

“Eco Evenings with DEP and OMG,” a series of virtual town halls open to all County residents to discuss relevant environmental topics that are important locally, will continue its successful run at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26th. Once again Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will make opening remarks to kick off the town hall. The series is sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and One Montgomery Green (OMG).

The theme for May’s meeting will be: Water

Featured topics will include Stormwater bmp maintenance, the new county Trash Trap, “Robot Mowing” lawn advice, the newest grant recipients from the Chesapeake Bay Trust, local watershed partners and the new “Green Streets” initiatives down county.

Eco Evenings is hosted by Adam Ortiz, director of DEP, and Wendy Howard, executive director of OMG. They will lead discussions on timely environmental topics, answer questions and engage with special guests. Some comments from our county executive and community members about our inaugural town hall include:

“Eco Evenings are a great idea from the Department of Environmental Protection and One Montgomery Green to engage our constituents through thoughtful discussions to improve our environment,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “We are running out of time before climate change impacts become catastrophic. We must have a sense of urgency about saving and protecting our environment. These virtual townhalls are a great opportunity to share new ideas and solutions to address the climate challenges we face as a County.”

“Really enjoyed this virtual setting. Makes it easy for us to gather on important topics. Cannot wait to get involved.”

“I love hearing about opportunities for community members – I am a teacher at a Cooperative Nursery School and want to relay information to my families and consider programming for students to engage with. Thank you also for speaking to upcoming legislation. This was a lovely evening, thanks to all.”

The events are free to join for residents. For more information and a link to the event, go to the DEP Facebook Event Page at https://www.facebook.com/MyGreenMontgomery.
