Town Hall sponsored by 350.org examines the Count’s policy on fossil fuel divestment for the County pensions, stating that it is a “moral necessity to use the County’s financial power to fight the climate emergency and support a rapid and just transition from fossil fuels”. The County’s Board of Investment Trustees (BIT) holds our County’s pension funds, over $50 million dollars, in companies like ExxonMobil and Arch Coal. This Town Hall will examine the significant recent developments in the world of fossil fuel divestment, as well as demonstrate the financial imperative to divest from the County’s fossil fuel holdings. A financial expert, former New York State Comptroller, Tom Sanzillo, will share his experience with New York’s divestment.
