Transitioning Maryland households from gas to electric space heating and appliances is essential for achieving our state’s climate goals and reducing health impacts from indoor air pollution. EmPOWER Maryland, our longstanding energy efficiency program, needs to be updated to become an important tool for accomplishing this transition, with EmPOWER rebates supporting households switching to electric in order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Legislation to EmPOWER Maryland to refocus it on reducing GHG emissions was one of our top legislative priorities in 2022. While our efforts fell short on the final day, it will again be one of our top priorities in 2023.
